As we start out the new year, it’s always fun to get an update on the latest trends in home improvement! In the case of kitchen remodeling, many of the older design movements are seeing a resurgence. In this post, we explore a few of these kitchen remodeling trends to think about in 2018.
Darker Kitchen Floors
Adding more color has been a top trend in kitchen remodeling. In the past, this involved adding richer color schemes to existing kitchen spaces. Now darker floors are trending. This is a great aesthetic choice if you have light-colored walls or cabinets, as the contrast between light and dark adds depth to your kitchen.
Gray Walls with a Toned Twist
Gray undertones are a timeless choice for kitchen remodeling, but it’s far from this year’s staple. As previously mentioned, to stay on trend, making your kitchen space more colorful and vibrant should be your goal in 2018. Consider lighter gray hues, such as those with green-gray or purple-gray undertones. These are excellent choices if you have a lot of wood tones and natural colors in your kitchen.
Copper Makes a Return
Metal fixtures are making a comeback in 2018. Copper, in particular, is becoming a trendy option for sheeting, straps and rivets in kitchens. It also makes a good border for more permanent fixtures, such as the upper cabinetry or the hood. The appealing part about copper is it makes your kitchen appear warmer and more welcoming.
Black appliances are replacing stainless steel ones, especially in smaller kitchens. When your space is small, too much gray and silver can dominate the room and make your kitchen appear bare. We recommend pairing your black appliance with a medium- or dark-colored countertop and backsplash to soften the look.
